Union Island is a special little piece of paradise in the Southern Grenadines that make up the island chain nation of St Vincent & The Grenadines.
This small Caribbean island is abuzz with annual festivals and fulfilled experiences such as the annual Sailing Regatta. Clifton is the main town on Union Island and the port of entry for yachts.
Along the main street you’ll enjoy a great selection of bars and restaurants, boutiques, supermarkets, and specialist yacht provisionary businesses. The open air market opposite Hugh Mulzac Square and the wharf is well stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Clifton Harbour is an animated bay with yachts, fishing boats, ferry, and water taxis painting a busy and fascinating scene. Overlooking Union’s airport is Fort Hill, once the location of a 17th century canon battery, this 400ft high peak is good place to enjoy panoramic views of Clifton Harbour.
The white sand beaches here are simply amazing. They are among the finest in the Caribbean and the world.
You can fly into Union Island from mainland St Vincent. Flights service from Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, Martinique and Trinidad are also available and offer a seamless connection to most international flights. Charter flights are available between Union Island and many other regional airports.
Private taxis and minibuses are available here to get around the island. Minibuses can be identified by the driver’s logo or sign on the front and by a letter “H” on the number plate. Many drivers will also offer island tours if asked. Water taxis go between islands—including Happy Island, a man-made islet in the harbor where you can get a good stiff rum punch and even some grilled lobster or fish
Union is a small island in the Grenadines and one of the best ways to explore it is to walk around. In addition to paved roads there are a number of walking trails around Union making for great exploration. Be sure to carry plenty of water with you if you are walking as well as some form of sun protection. Basic maps are available from the Tourism Office on the main street in Clifton.
