As the UK prepares itself for a Royal Wedding in 2011, the world wonders if, like so many British newly-weds, Prince William and Kate Middleton will choose a Caribbean honeymoon?
We take a look at The Royal family’s love affair with the Caribbean
No strangers to the Caribbean, Prince William and Kate have already holidayed on Mustique, where they stayed at a luxury villa last year.
Princess Margaret, the late sister of HRH the Queen, had a long love affair with St Vincent & The Grenadines herself and partied for England in the 1970s on the exclusive island of Mustique where she had a holiday home. Her cousin, Lord Lichfield, also had a luxury house there along with a number of other aristocrats and celebrities.
Princess Diana took the young Princes William and Harry swimming and playing in the Caribbean Sea and they escaped to the peace and quiet of the island of Barbuda to escape the glare of the cameras when the royal marriage ran into difficulties.
In 2008, HRH the Prince of Wales and his new bride Camilla had a whirlwind tour of the Caribbean which included a visit to the Bob Marley museum in Kingston, Jamaica. The Royal couple played drums outside the ormer Marley home and met the reggae legend’s widow, Rita.
The Queen Elizabeth II also went to Jamaica, with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh , Prince Philip, in 1953 –with the state and the empire in mind. It was her Grand Coronation tour. The royal yacht was spotted many times in Caribbean waters over the years that have followed!
